With so many films coming out in theatres and streaming, it’s hard to get to everything when it’s released. So here’s our rapid-fire review of See You Yesterday.

DIRECTED BY: Stefon Bristol
WRITTEN BY: Fredrica Bailey and Stefon Bristol
STARRING: Eden Duncan-Smith, Dante Crichlow and Astro

SYNOPSIS: Best friends CJ and Sebastian build a pair of time machines and use them in order to save the life of CJ’s brother. (IMDB)

See You Yesterday is a layered sci-fi teen adventure that brings a heavier topic to an otherwise lighthearted genre. The performances are outstanding as the two leads and their supporting cast deliver strong, investible performances making this story a heartfelt one. The cinematography and score further build an adventurous atmosphere. However, the story itself is simplistic, full of dragging exposition and questionable science that feels at ends with its two different stories. The lightheartedness of the time travel themes are overshadowed by the seriousness of the police brutality social commentary making this film fall in the grey area between both genres, unable to decide fully which side it wants to embrace.

★★★★★★☆☆☆☆ 6/10 – Consider
